this Bistrot style restaurant and bar has been conceptualized and lovingly put together by the formidable Moroccan ~ Belgian team of Zohra (an award winning interior designer) and Blaise (founder of Hishem furniture) and is another winning collaboration after their combined successes of Villa Balquisse and Balique.
An impressive air-conditioned yet high ceilinged open space, upon entering you immediately feel welcomed and reminded of a New York loft/factory space with a distinct industrial feel, this is definitely metro does retro. However, the interior furnishings pay homage to many antiques and artifacts sourced from around the Indonesian archipelago, most being from the couple’s personal collection. Even the many brightly coloured photographs adorning the walls have been taken by Blaise, and can be bought if so desired.
 
The menu is absolutely delicious, with a good balanced combination of soul foods, incorporated into a modern bistro touch, inspired by the typical French ‘brasserie’ that does however honour the best of world cuisine. For example the homemade Foie Gras Terrine is found happily on the menu next to diverse selections such as Grilled Blood Sausage with Caramelized Pear or Citrus Cured Salmon with Watermelon and Herbed Feta. The Crying Tiger Steak being recommended and nothing at all to cry about, along with the classic Steak Tartar, Tapas, Fillet Mignon au Poivre Vert, Moroccan Spiced Baked Red Snapper, crisp salads such as Slippery Lobster and Pomelo or a heartier Lamb Navarin, all crafted by the skilled hands and culinary creativity of Yehudi, the Belgian Head Chef and his carefully picked team. Desserts are a celebration of sweetness -why not try the Young Mango Tarte Tatin, Spiced Fruit Salad or Bitter Sweet Chocolate Souffle with homemade Hazelenut Gelato.
Evening brings on a sophisticated glow from the many trademark lamps of Zohra’s design or from the vast antique lamp collection, and at the upstairs bar, a cocktail or two – Mojito Royale, French 75 or a Martini of choice – will glamorously and amorously get the night started. Bistrot is original, fun, delicious and very ‘fairytale’ adult – allow yourself to venture back into a bygone era with all the comforts of the present. This is going to be a big hit in Bali, as there is nothing else quite like it – so get in now before the reservation list gets too big!
